About us

The practice was established in 1984 and was originally based in Crayke, but relocated to our current location in Flawith in 1996 with the retirement of our previous colleague Keith Schubert. Malcolm had been in partnership with Keith for some years, so on his retirement, he was joined in the partnership by his wife Joyce, who had been working in other local practices whilst bringing up their children. Malcolm and Joyce live in the house at the front of the surgery, so can keep a close watch on what goes on!

The premises were originally used for the manufacture of trailers, and required massive refurbishment to become our veterinary surgery. Since then we have added a separate block of stables and most recently a new block consisting of further stables, an equine examination area and laboratory.

We are situated just 4 miles from Easingwold and 10 miles from York, with excellent access to major road networks. This allows us to visit equine clients in an area of over 30 mile radius from the surgery. Home visits for small animals can be arranged, although most are encouraged to come to the surgery.

We pride ourselves in giving the highest possible standards of care to our clients and their animals. As a small and friendly practice, we are able to give a personal service with continuity of care and will endeavour to fulfil requests to see a particular vet if at all possible.

In 2011, we decided to join the voluntary Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Practice Standards Scheme. We achieved General Practice level accreditation for both Small Animal and Equine. This means that we passed a rigorous inspection by the RCVS to ensure that all our practice protocols were of a high standard. This serves to reassure the general public that what goes on 'behind the scenes' is done to the highest quality. We had a repeat inspection in 2015, and once again the Assessor was happy that we comfortably met all the required standards.

We have recently introduced Health Plans for both our equine and small animal patients. Please look at the relevant sections for further details.
